Re. ection on
Michigan Zhong Shu Temple
Grand Opening
It was a perfect Michigan late spring day. The sky was deep
blue, the wind blew gently, and the temperature was just right
during the grand opening of Michigan Zhong Shu Temple on May
19, 2012. The white temple stood solemnly on a large green, well-
trimmed pasture. It was nicely decorated with beautiful . owers
and Tao wall plaques. Six Dian Chuan Shi (DCS) arrived here
together with numerous Tao relatives and friends from Taiwan,
the Philippines, Vietnam, Canada, Hawaii, and California for this
great event. Including those from Michigan, the total number
of attendees was estimated to be over 150 people. Everybody
dressed up nicely, greeted each other politely, and was full of bliss
to welcome the grand opening of the new temple.
The grand opening ceremony consisted of two sessions in the
morning. The first session involved the tea and fruits offering,
invocation, followed by the grand opening ceremony prayer. The
second session consisted of a series of lecturers and presentations
including the historical overview, missions and goals of I-Kuan
Tao presented by a number of DCS, followed by the Tao songs
singing, video presentations, and a show of photos of the temple
before and after the remodeling compiled by Chen Tan Zhu. The
Tao music was truly delightful, and the video presentations were
informative. DCS¡¦s speeches were especially inspirational and
Chen Tan Zhu¡¦s efforts and words were impressive. After the
completion of the ceremony, everyone was full of joy and had a
deeper understanding of Tao, which is the most precious and the
absolute truth. Everyone was happy and felt blessed to see the
establishment of the Tao temple in Michigan.
Lunch time was one of the signifi cant grand opening events.
The attendees could not only taste all vegetarian food but have

ample time to get acquaintance with one another. Both large
tents and picnic tables under the tree shade were neatly laid out
in the temple backyard to allow a chance for more people to
gather. Over a dozen of delicious, colorful, and . avorful dishes
of were nicely prepared by a group of heavenly chefs. Everyone
was impressed with the food and the entire atmosphere. Many
American friends could not believe that all dishes were vegetarian.
All the guests praised the magnifi cence and beauty of the temple
settings. Most importantly, every participant enjoyed the program
and felt the friendliness and warmth of the people in the temple
who cheerfully helped and served.
It is impossible not to reflect happily on what has happened
in the past eight months during the temple reconstruction. When
the original church was purchased, it was in a shabby condition.
Everything from its inside and out required major repair. Step by
step, it was miraculously transformed into the current beautiful
temple. The entire progress ¡V from the architectural design,
permit applications, coordination and supervision of electrical
and plumbing contractors, various carpentry and masonry works,
cooking, cleaning and paintings ¡V consisted of hard work, labor,
love, and devotion by numerous friends and Tao relatives from
Taiwan, Hawaii, California, and around Michigan. Except
for a few electrical and plumbing projects, which required
licensed contractors, the entire remodeling work was performed
by volunteers, day after day, without a brief break. The most
impressive and inspiring fact was the tremendous accomplishment
by the two elder brothers from Taiwan, whose average age was
over 70. Both of them were well known master carpenters who
normally oversaw big projects without being hands-on themselves.
They had the option to continue to enjoy good lives with their
families in Taiwan. Yet, they gave up their comfortable living,

booked plane tickets with their own savings, left their beloved
families, and arrived in an unfamiliar land to work continuously
for six months. They were the main force and motivation behind
bringing this temple to the present state. They endured the severe
cold Michigan weather, felt the loneliness of being away from
home, suffered from language and cultural barriers, and lacked
the appropriate tools to complete the remodeling. Their great
sacrifi ces, devotion, and dedication were the spirit of Tao. Their
immense contributions to the temple and their sel. ess efforts will
be deeply remembered by everyone in Michigan. Besides the
remodeling work, another huge contribution was the enormous
material donation from a large number of loving and caring Tao
relatives in Taiwan. Through the great effort and coordination of
Liao DCS
(
¹ù¯À¯\ÂI¶Ç®v) they specially prepared, ordered and
shipped almost every item needed for the operation of the temple
including the altar, furniture, incense, cooking utensils, stationary
supplies, and kitchenware. With the grateful hearts, a large group
of Michigan Tao relatives and friends showed up on the cargo
delivery day and worked tirelessly to unload the materials from
the truck in a neat and timely manners under the cold and wet
weather. The temple would not be in the present status without
all those kind helps from so many wonderful people in the Tao
family.
Another critical factor that made the grand opening so smooth
and successful was the leadership of Wu DCS and Lee DCS.
Because of their encouragement, over 30 Tao relatives from
California arrived to celebrate and assist with the grand opening.
Many of them are successful entrepreneurs, top executives of
big corporations, or business owners. They sacrificed their
vacation time, paid their own airfare, and booked hotels to come
here to support this temple. They were all very cheerful, highly
disciplined, and knowledgeable in every aspect of the temple
management. They taught us temple etiquette, the methods of

preparing healthy and tasty vegetarian food, and proper ways
to guide new Tao receivers. They set up the surveillance,
networking, audio and video systems. They showed us good
examples on how to be a positive Tao cultivator. During their
stay, we had happy and enjoyable experiences working together.
We developed great respect for each other and became very dear
friends as well. We had a candlelight and farewell gathering to
express our individual experience and thoughts. They shared their
touching stories before and after receiving Tao. Many indicated
their growth in fi nding the True Self and the spiritual reward they
had received for coming to participate in the grand opening. We
were all very grateful for their help and admired their deep Tao
commitments.
Since the beginning of the temple remodeling, we witnessed
numerous positive changes among many Michigan friends and
Tao relatives. Inspired by the sacred vow of Wu DCS, the great
wisdom of Lee DCS, the diligence by De-Shiou Tan Zhu, the
devotion of the two elder brothers, the caring of the Amah-
grandson team, Mr. Lin¡¦s lectures, and many other Tao relatives¡¦
efforts, over three dozens of Michigan friends had received
Tao. As of today, many of them have publically acknowledged
that their temperament and attitudes toward people and matters
have improved significantly. They have found peace, harmony,
and truth by coming to the temple. Their lives and their
family relations have become brighter and happier. Their job
performance and business growth have advanced noticeably. A
large number of them feel that this temple is like their home and
are eager to return to meet Tao friends and offer their helps. We
strongly believe that there will be more people coming to join the
Tao family after the establishment of this temple. With the grace
of God and with a grateful heart, we will continue to spread the
truth, peace and love to everybody, every family, and the whole
community.
